Final Thoughts: Heavenly Sword

It’s one of those games that can easily be used in the whole “games as art” argument. It is as dramatic as anything Hollywood can produce and as engaging as the best novel. Heavenly Sword is in a small group of games that pushes the lines of the video game experience. It joins such greats as Half-Life 2, Metal Gear Solid, and a handful of others.
The controls are quite good and the use of the SIXAXIS motion controls is pretty well done though it does take some getting used to when using “After Touch” on projectiles. It’s not exactly easy the first few times out.
The sound and graphical presentation are what put Heavenly Sword over the top. Very few games have managed to deliver such a cinematic and engaging experience. The sound effects and music play a large part in that, increasing the dramatic flare at various points in the cut scenes and the action. It is the most beautiful sounding game on the PS3.
I have only a couple of complaints about this game, an occasionally screwy camera and it’s just too short. I’m definitely going to keep playing though until I have all of the special features and content unlocked.
I believe this is the only truly must have game of the small PS3 library. Go buy Heavenly Sword now. I will now go back to playing it to unlock all the goodies.
