First Impression: Monster Hunter Freedom 2

I’ve spent about three hours in game and I’m still in the training school. Granted you don’t have to go through the whole school before setting out on your first quest, but I’m one of those people that has to finish all the training I can. Huge can be good, but I’m not sure if huge fits well with portables. I guess I’ll find out.
It certainly has it’s own unique art style, mixing feudal Japanese with medieval peasantry and nomads makes for some interesting character designs and scenery. I like what I’ve seen so far. It’s not as graphically appealing as the absolutely gorgeous Silent Hill Origins or the bright and bubbly Daxter, but it holds it’s own, as it has some very nice vistas in parts of the map.
The sound and music are above average. The sword swings and strikes in particular have a nice ring to them. Animal noises are somewhat bland and unoriginal, but then there’s only so much you can do with animals that hasn’t already been done before. They all pretty much sound alike. The music is pleasant, again a mix of style. It’s pretty big in the orchestral sense. I like it.
I have a lot left to do in this game and since it seems to be quite open ended in it’s game play I’m not sure how much time I’m actually going to invest in it before I make my final judgment on it. Stay tuned.
