Halo R/C Vehicles

Halo R/C Vehicles

Best R/C Vehicle this side of the Outer Colonies. When cruising the Halo megastructure and blasting the Covenant into oblivion, no vehicle is more useful than the Warthog. As Cortana will be happy to inform you, the Warthog is a multi-function jeep with a LAAG turret mounted on the back. It has enough room for a driver and a machine gunner with room for one additional passenger. Now you can collect your own mini RC version of the Halo Warthog complete with action figures and gun turret. Make good use of it during long office meetings when you suddenly realize the CEO has been terminally infected by the Flood. New Vehicles! In addition to the Warthog, we now have the Mongoose and an R/C Helicopter version of the Flying Hornet.

Choosing a web host…

Posted on June 12th, 2009 by Jeff Hoy

I’ve been involved in creating web sites for over a decade now.  In that time I’ve learned quite a bit about webhosting technology and business.  There are literally thousands upon thousands of webhosting companies all over the world.  Everything from your huge mega hosts like GoDaddy and RackSpace to your small, local hosts like Farmers Telephone Company populate this diverse business.  The choices are complicated even further by the fact that every hosting company offers different features, equipment, and tools.  You could spend weeks searching google, looking for a webhost.  You’re in luck though, as some enterprising people have decided to make finding a webhost much easier.

One great place to find yourself a good webhost for your new blog, family, or business site is at Web Hosting Geeks.  Web Hosting Geeks has information on a ton of different companies and each one has been reviewed and rated by users.  They also break their list down into categories like Windows Hosting, Ecommerce Hosting, and Blog Hosting to make picking the right host for you even easier.

In addition to the listings and reviews there is also a webhosting blog with a lot of useful information.  In particular, check out their category for web site CMSs.  They have many posts about content management systems, including a very good Joomla vs. WordPress post, to help you decide which cms is best for you.

So, if you are ever in the need for web site hosting for your new web site, go check out Web Hosting Geeks.

Paintball… it’s changed…

Posted on January 18th, 2009 by Jeff Hoy

In the mid to late 90’s I played a bit of paintball here and there.  My friends and I would get together at different places and just have some fun playing capture the flag or last man standing, whatever struck our fancy at the time.  We didn’t really have an organized field or pro shop to help support our hobby.  Around this time Wal-Mart decided to get in the market and that’s how we all got our gear and paint.  There were no refs, or chronographs, people mixed pump markers with semi autos.  The markers varied from Tippmans to Spyders to Daisy Stingrays, whatever we had.  We had a lot of fun though, it was good times.  It was just the cost of it all that ended it all for us.  We were all poor high school students, we couldn’t support a somewhat expensive hobby on a regular basis.  Paintball faded into obscurity with most of us.

I still keep up with it, I browse some web sites, pick up the occasional magazine, and check things out on YouTube.  In fact, it was one web site I was browsing earlier that led me to write this post.  But let’s fast forward about a decade and the landscape has changed.  Pueblo has a great new field and pro shop with tournaments and some semi-pro teams that practice there.  Wal-Mart is still in the game, as are other big retailers now.  And while the hobby and sport has grown tremendously, with new technology, new companies, and a few organizations running series and tournaments, one thing that hasn’t changed much is the cost.  I really want to get back into paintball, I would love nothing more, but between all my other hobbies, I just don’t have the funds.

I’m pretty lucky in that I do have access to an excellent pro shop and field very close by.  But if you aren’t so lucky there’s always the internet.  I’d suggest checking out Ultimate Paintball.  It’s a web store with a huge selection of gear from all kinds of companies.  Ion, Tippman, Kingman paintball, Bob Long, Proto, and JT are some of the bigger brands represented.  Something unique about UP, that I really like, is that they also have a toll-free customer support number.  You don’t see that a lot any more.  If a web store even has phone based customer support, it’s usually a long distance call.  They have very reasonable prices compared to other online retailers and they also offer free shipping for orders over $99.  And when it comes to paintball, it’s pretty easy to have an order over $99.  If you’re in the market for some new gear, check them out.
