Kyosho GP10 nostalgia…

Posted on Thursday, January 1st, 2009 at 12:01 am by Jeff Hoy

I think I’ve worked all the kinks out of my resurrected Kyosho GP10 Nostalgia Series car.  I got a clutch spring from Traxxas and an exhaust manifold spring from Associated during my visit to the hobby shop the other day.  I got them installed and ran a couple tanks of fuel through the engine in my driveway.  It worked pretty darn perfectly.  The exhaust manifold stayed in place with the screws and spring in place so it was quite a bit cleaner at the end of things.  The clutch spring was a little tight, requiring more throttle input to get the car rolling at first, but I expect it will stretch a little bit over time.  I think I got the engine in tune about where it needs to be.  Spitting on the head results in a slow boil-off over about 10 seconds, which is about right in my book.

There is just one more issue I need to resolve and that’s the pressure nipple on the tuned pipe.  I’ve tried various glues to get it to stick, but none of them could stand the heat, I may have to solder it in place and hope that does the trick.  Or I was thinking of drilling and tapping into the manifold rather than the pipe, then just plug the hole in the pipe with something.  It’s not a show stopping problem, I wouldn’t even classify it as a minor problem, but I would like to fix it.

I just need to paint and mount the body, put some new tires on the rims, and it’ll be ready for a full on performance.  I did take some video of the tests today, but I don’t think I’ll put them up because they’re nothing exciting.
