Most innovative product of 2009?
Posted on Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at 12:00 am by Jeff HoyIn the November 2009 issue of RC Driver (out to subscribers, should be on newsstands soon) they have their yearly RC Driver Voice Your Choice Awards. Most of the results were acceptable, if not even a little predictable. One winner stood out to me though, and that was the Most Innovative Product. The readers of RC Driver voted the Traxxas Summit as the most innovative product of 2009. While I agree it’s a cool product with a selectable two speed transmission (hardly new, Tamiya’s had a selectable three speed tranny for years) and remote locking differentials (new and cool), I don’t think the Summit itself qualifies as the most innovative product. I think the award still belongs to Traxxas, but it should have gone to them for their waterproof electronics package that has become standard on all their electric powered vehicles. Truly waterproof gear hasn’t really existed for land based vehicles prior to now. Having waterproofed electronics opens up RC cars and trucks to a whole new operating arena. Running in rain, snow, and mud are no longer a matter of concern.
So the Jeff Hoy, American – Most Innovative RC Product of 2009 award is hereby given to Traxxas for their waterproof electronics.
Oh, and for the record, I think the Futaba 4PK should have won the Radio System award.
