2009 Top Ten Random Things

Time again for me to list ten random things. Similar to how everybody does their top ten blah-blahs of 20XX lists at the end of the year. But mine is way cooler than theirs.

10. Hot Chicks – They still avoid me like the plague, but I can’t stop looking (…leering…) at them.
9. RC Driver Live @ 5 – An informative and entertaining (infotaining) r/c hobby show. Monday through Friday, live, at 5.
8. Sloppers – A delicious staple food of Pueblo, an open face cheese burger smothered in green chile. Also, it’s pretty easy to make at home.
7. Behemoth – Their latest album, Evangelion, is a fantastic piece of work that takes death metal to new heights.
6. Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld – It’s one of the few news shows worth watching any more.
5. This List - Falling two positions from last year. As a now annual list for four years running, it’s not as new or unique as it once was, but it still manages to stay random, so it sneaks into the top five.
4. Gravity Crash - Neo-retro gameplay stylings combining Choplifter, Subterrania, Lunar Lander, and vector graphics into a challenging yet fun shmup gaming experience. It was a tough choice between this and PixelJunk Shooter. They’re both awesome games, but I’m enjoying the challenge of Gravity Crash more.
3. Tamiya – They still release r/c cars in kit form for the true hobbyists out there, even though the rest of the r/c industry has gone RTR.
2. RiffTrax Live - I went to the movie theater three times this year, two of those were to see a RiffTrax Live event. The other, Transformers 2.
1. Nothing. Life is pointless.

2009 Predictions Review

Let’s take a look back at my predictions for 2009 and see just how far off I was, shall we?

1. Losi will release a conversion kit for the 8ight to make a short course 1/8th scale truck to compete with Associated’s SC8. Or maybe they’ll release a complete truck instead of the conversion. And since their main rival seems to be Traxxas any more, they’ll also correct the mistake they made with the Desert Truck and release something to compete with the Slash.

So this was kind of a two parter. I was half right. They didn’t do an 1/8th scale short course truck or conversion, but they did release the 1/10th scale Strike SCT. It is closer in style to the Slash than Associated’s SC10.

2. 1/8th scale electric will take off. I mean bigger than the mini/micro fad even. Huge.

Every major manufacturer has a brushless 1/8th scale buggy on the market. A couple have truggies and monster trucks are out there too. And the first 1/8th scale on-road chassis for brushless was recently announced by Serpent. I can’t say it’s huge, but it’s definitely moved in the right direction.

3. Lots of people will make over generalized predictions and at the end of the year they will point to how right they were.

Yeppers, I was absolutely right on this one.

4. Half the country will love the new president, the other half will hate him.

This one was a gimme. Of course that’s what’s going to happen in American politics. But then some polls are saying more people hate him than love him.

5. I’ll get completely bored with blogging about half-way through the year and not post anything for a couple of months.

This one didn’t exactly happen. I did toss my twice-a-day posting schedule out the window though. I’m down to maybe a dozen a month. And this actually turned out to be the first year where I wrote posts in every month.

I’ve connected the dots…

Between this post about current climate goings-on, this post about the state of the automotive industry, and the economic instability, I’ve come to the conclusion that the 1970s repeats itself.

So in keeping with _____ is the new _____!
